Screw the scales!

Hi guys,

Soo I got weighed today after another 4 weeks and I've lost 5lbs.

Realistically that's a little over a pound a week which is good for a steady, healthy loss.

Mentally however, I was ready to throw in the towel and spend my wages on McDonalds and cake!

I didn't!! I guess because I have a whole bloody person to lose, I expected a bigger loss in my second month. I know it'll get smaller as I go along this journey but initially I wanted a bigger 'lost' number to be staring back at me.

Then I remembered reading this poem/speech:

One Pound of Fat

Hello! Do you know me? If you don't, you should.
I am ONE POUND OF FAT, and I am the happiest pound of FAT that you would ever want to meet!

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me! After all, I am only ONE POUND OF FAT. Just ONE POUND. Everyone wants to lose 3 or 5 or 15 pounds, but never ONLY one.

So, I just stick around and happily keep you. Then I am free to add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice...

That is, until I have grown to 10, 20 or even 30 pounds in weight...

YES... it is fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT... left to do just as I please.

So, when you weigh in, go ahead... just keep on saying, "Oh I only lost one pound." (As if that is so terrible.) For you see, if you do this, you will encourage others to hang around me because they will think that I am not worth losing.

And I LOVE being around you... your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips, and every other part of you. HAPPY DAYS! After all, I am ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

No idea who wrote this (thanks) but it's so true. I was ready to give in after all my hard work because I lost the equivalent of a pound a week. Not happening!

It's easy to give in to negative thoughts and get fatter. Gaining was the easy part but saying 'no, I'm worth it and will stay on track' is the best achievement ever!

I came home from the chemist (I weigh in at Boots on the electronic scales as you get a ticket) and I made my lunch. Mushroom and goats cheese omelette with a spinach salad.

Tasted delicious and was really filling. I've now whipped up a yummy smoothie and I'm taking my fur babies out for a long walk.

Remember the twists and turns throughout this journey will eventually lead to the place you want to go!

On that cheesy note *im rolling my own eyes here* I'm off to get my mind in gear and my butt moving.

Have a fab week guys!

Much Love,

Bex x

Bite the bullet

Hi guys,

For those familiar with my ramblings, you'll know I'm on a journey to healthy (I'm losing weight and taking names) ok that's cheesy but you get my meaning. Haha

Anyway I have a new toy to help me on this adventure (tut tut to those thinking rude thoughts!)

I bought the Breville Active Blender which is awesome. The blender attaches to the drink bottle included. You add your chosen ingredients and you blend away, then take out the blade, add a lid and you're good to go with a delicious, healthy smoothie. Yummy :p

Now I'm easily impressed with things like this. I once bought the shake weight dumbbell which I hated, so you can imaging how happy I was to know I love this lil gadget.

It's simple and easy to use and you get the added bonus of not having to clean extra pots. Happy dance!

How much was this lil beaut you ask? Only £20 from Amazon!! With free delivery! Sold :D
Check it out here http://goo.gl/jE6Cwx

I can't wait to experiment with different fruits and veggies. This is a great way to get extra nutrients into my diet and also keep hungar pangs at bay.

So if anyone has any tasty smoothie recipes, I'm all ears! Share those bad boys and let's get healthy.

Much Love,

Bex x

Givenchy Counter Experience

Hi guys,

I wrote a previous post about the Givenchy box from Latest in Beauty. http://bubblybex3.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/latest-in-beauty-givenchy-box.html?m=1

If you read it, you'll note that I could get a sample of the Givenchy foundation and get your make up done for free! Happy days!

So off I went to the Trafford centre last week. Now I don't like others doing my make up, so I took my friend who wants to check out various high end brands.

The Givenchy counter was situated in the Debenhans store. The consultant was Beverly and she was lovely. Very friendly and immediately put my friend at ease.

To begin Beverly asked my friend some questions about skin type, dry spots and what coverage she wanted.
Once these were established, the time had come to choose foundation shades. Beverly played around with a few until we settled on a shade that wasn't too orange looking, as my friend likes to bronze.

After my friend cleaned her face, Beverly applied a moisturizer and serum and away with the face paint ;) ok ok foundation.

Anyway a good few products later and  the make up was done and it looked gorgeous! Lovely full coverage, nice bronze glow and a dark blue dramatic eye.
Bonus I even learnt how to use the quirky mascara! :D
The highlight for her cheeks was beyond beautiful and the look was finished with a fab metallic brown lip :D

Overall very impressed with both Beverley's friendly and informative service and the quality of the products.
I myself have tested some products from the Givenchy box and loved them!

Incidentally the Le Rough collection lippie called Rose Dressing is my favourite right now. Such a beautiful coral red and the formula is amazing. I was actually talking to a lady about it whilst my friend was getting her face done and she told me she'd take it and thought I was staff. Lol. Always nice to know my passion comes across :D

Have you got any make up counter stories? I'd love to hear from you. If you're able to visit the Trafford Centre then check out Beverly at Givenchy and say hi from me ;)

Much Love,

Bex x

Ps I totally forgot to take a picture of the finished make up look!! *face palm*

My Make Up Bag Staples

Hello gorgeous people,

Today I wanted to talk about make up bag must haves. You've heard of the staple wardrobe, now let's talk about the staple make up bag!

Gone are the days when a dab of spot cover, some translucent powder and a slick of clear mascara were my daily routine. Oh the innocence of youth ;)

Now I'm bombarded by serums and primers, highlight, contour and bronzing and don't even get me started on brows!

So I thought a great post would be to narrow down what I think is essential in a make up bag to create a basic look.

How you jazz that up after is completely up to you, your comfort zone and your imagination.

Like the dramatic smokey eye? Go for it. Like bright bold lips? Knock yourself out :)

So let's begin:

To prime or not to prime

I only started priming my face in this last year. As I'm getting older (nearly 28!) I just want that lil extra help to smooth my skin and create a good base for whatever face product goes next.
Each primer has a selling point. For example the Laura Mercier Hydration primer will obviously hydrate your skin, the Benefit Porefessional helps reduce your pores to the cheaper MUA primer, that gives your skin a lovely soft, smooth feel.
Primers basically create a smooth canvas for your face products to sit on by smoothing lines, pores and in some cases discolouration.
Whether you choose to prime or not is completely up to you.

What face?

So many options nowadays. Liquid or mousse, BB or CC cream to mineral or powder based foundations.
When choosing your face product think of coverage. A BB cream is more of a light cover whereas you can get foundations that are full. Also do you want a wet base or a powder only. Just something to think about.
I use a matte BB cream for everyday wear and a full coverage foundation on nights out or special occasions.
Choose your ideal product and you can go from there.

To cover or to highlight?

To me a concealer is that, it conceals imperfections. Be that a spot or redness. In my case, dark under eyes! Bane of my life!
However I've noticed that a lot of people use a lighter shade to create the highlighted look under the eyes and on the t zone.
My personal preference with concealer is to hide dark colour and redness from the occasional breakout.
I get a shade to match my skin tone and voila my eyes look fresh and rested :D
Decide what you want, then choose your shade occordingly or do both. Play around and see what you like.

Set much.

Setting powders are a big thing. This is the final piece of the face game before you start carving out cheek bones or getting instant sun touched skin.
Ideally you want to look natural and not cakey.
You can even get products that set your undereye only, so your concealer doesn't crease.
For the face its a choice of foundation powders which will add colour on top of the base product or you can use a translucent powder which isn't a colour, it just seals your chosen face product.
I use translucent daily to set my BB cream then use a mineral foundation in my skin tone on those days I want more coverage.

The brow game.

I'm new to brows as I have thick brows so it's only recently I've been filling in the fronts as its a little sparse there in places.
Boy was that a test of patience choosing my ideal product.
Pencils, pens, wax, powders to pomades! I was overwhelmed with the options and to be honest got a little scared I'd end up looking like a dude with a thick monobrow!
I finally narrowed my choice to a brow kit with a coloured wax and 2 powders. I also have a pencil for rush days.
Decide what you feel more comfortable with or what brow look you want then you're good to go designing ;)

Cheeky chops.

So I've always used blush. Having chubby cheeks I never wanted to emphasise them so a light dab of colour was all I did.
On regular days I only use my blush to break up the BB cream.
However now I've been introduced to the world of contour, bronzing and highlight.
How do newbies navigate this idea of surgeon sculpted cheeks and sun kissed skin.
For me I use a matte bronzer like the Benefit hoola bronzer and work that just under my cheekbone and on my forehead then add my blush. I know it's not a 'contour' product but it works great.
I mostly highlight when I'm going out so not a regular for me.

As far as the eye can see ;)

Mascara. Every woman's (and man's) secret weapon.
A few swipes and your eyes will look wide open and visible. Lol. Nothing like seeing your lashes to make you feel happy.
Whether you choose volumizing, lengthening or curling, synthetic or bristle brush the choice is yours.
Start from the base of your lashes and wiggle up. I use 2 coats so I don't get clumpy lashes.

Give us a kiss :-*

Now the lips. Unless I'm going anywhere public, I use a lip balm as my lips are quite dry. I love the Carmex balms. Keep my lips nourished and supple (you never know when that's needed ;) Haha.
I forgot to add that to my picture though! *face palm*

These are my basic everyday products I use. But to be cliché here, the world is your oyster or in this case make up products. Haha

Whether you want to rock a bold purple lip or stay cool with a neutral nude. The choice is endless.
You want to add some colour to the eyes? Then shade away.

Need that lovely shimmer on your cheeks? Then let's get dabbing. For highlight, I use the powder ones from my Make Up Revolution blush palette. Light frosty lilac, a few dabs along the top of my cheek and I'm done.

The point is once you get the main face done, the eyeshadows and funky lip colours are just added window dressing. They show your personality and individual style.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know your thoughts or must haves :)

Much Love,

Bex x

Glossybox of Love!

Hello beauts,

It's Glossybox time! Haha.

Totally digging the design this month. Not too cheesy with it being V Day and it's everything Birchbox wasn't! Happy dance ;)

I love this box, it's subtle enough not to piss the inner cynic off but still lovey enough for the romantic :)
I'm also loving the wrapping on Glossybox. Nice paper with a cute bow, little touches like that make me smile.

Anyway on to the unboxing!! Lol

How awesome do these goodies look! :D

Included in my box this month were some fab full size products plus a mini pack of the love hearts sweets *cute*

Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor £9.99

How cool to get a razor! No explanation needed, this one does come with a water activation serum bar above the blade so as you shave, your skin is getting lovely goodness like shea butter to hydrate your legs.

got2be All star 10 in 1 styling £4

Use on damp hair and this stuff will leave you with thicker, stronger, smoother, shinier, frizz free, heat proof yada yada hair! Phew that's a list.
I don't use products like this. I always feel like I'm going to end up looking greasy plus I like to keep things low key with just my shampoo and conditioner.
I noticed that other boxes got eyebrow kits which would have been better.

Royal Apothic Tinties $14 so about £9

This is a tinted lip butter with added oils. It's in beautiful packaging with a rose gold lid. It also smells like chocolate! Yum. Does give you a lovely lip colour. I got the shade Coral which is a coral colour. Duh ;) My only vice is that it's a tub whereas I prefer tube balms.

So Susan Rose quartet lip & cheek palette £8

Not sure on this one. Kinda takes me back to primary school when you got those kiddy make up sets only this one isn't from the pound shop! Lol
Nice bright colours though and I'd use them on my lips only as I'm not a fan of cream face products.

Marsk mineral eyeshadow £14.49

This is my second shadow from this brand. I got one in my glamour beauty box at Christmas (latest in beauty) and once again I'm impressed.
These are loose pigments. The colour payoff and shimmer on these is gorgeous.
This was a dark grey shade with the cheesiest name Fifty Shades *gag me* ha no pun intended!
Anyway goes on great with a beautiful grey/blue shimmer.

Finally Glossybox included a little pack of love heart sweets, can we say 'aww'

I'm thinking with the vibe of this box, Glossybox were preparing you to get lucky this valentines ;) smooth legs, beautiful hair, flushed cheeks and nourished lips! Throw in a shadow inspired by a raunchy (rubbish) book and you're set!

Alas I was doing a Bridget Jones minus wine and junk food though *sigh*
I did take my fur babies out longer if that counts as a date? Haha

Anyway I'm rambling. Good box this month, some nice products and well worth the £10 :)
If you're interested in getting your own Glossybox then have a look http://www.glossybox.co.uk/referal?CI=MTkwODc3

Did you get anything different this month?

Much Love,

Vegetables, tears and tantrums

Hi guys,

Quick update, I'm on point still with the diet. Must admit I'm struggling getting the water down. I know it's needed and can really aid weight loss but the truth is, I'm so sick of peeing! Haha

Anyway last week was rubbish, work was hectic, my brother who's autistic wasn't sleeping so had a few disturbed nights plus my niece (my mum watches her a few days a week) has hit the terrible twos! Let me just say that her tantrums are epic, the girl has some powerful lungs! *ears still ringing!*

The main thing was me though. I was fed up eating the 'good' stuff whilst everyone was gorging on cakes, crisps and chocolate. What can I say the inner (and outer) fat girl was having major toddler moments! Tears were shed (I'm not proud) and I basically thought 'sod it'

I finally realised what my problem was. I HATE chopping veg and preparing meals! It's so bloody boring. At least with the 'junk' you either bang it in the microwave for 5 minutes or wait till the delivery guy knocks on your door.

Then I thought how lazy that way of thinking is. Have I got so complacent with convenience foods that I can't spend an extra 15 minutes chopping some veg? Knowing full well it's good for me, helps my body, satisfies my appetite and does taste nice with the right seasoning!

Another wake up call on this crazy journey I'm on. Your mind is the biggest hurdle in all aspects of life. Staying on track with food, giving extra with fitness, applying for that dream job. If you allow the doubts and fears to win then you'll never truely know what you're capable of!

Time to pull up my big girl pants and kick the negative thoughts in the balls ;)

On that note, I ended up defrosting some prawns, had a bag of chopped salad leaves, I added some tomatoes and cucumber with some sauce.

Took 5 minutes and was so tasty. Thus proving you can have a healthy meal in the same time you'd cook a ready meal :)

How do you deal with negative thoughts? Any tips to jazz up prepping and cooking?

Much Love,

Bex x

Latest In Beauty Get The Gloss Box

Hi guys,

Another latest in beauty box! What can I say, I'm a sucker for this company.

This time they joined up with Get The Gloss the online destination for health and beauty in the UK.

Nicely wrapped as always :)

Included were some different face/body serums and oils.

Therapie Roques Oneil Serum. This is a full body product which is perfect for replenishing your skin after the harsh winter weather. Nice to use, not the greatest smell though.

Balance Me face oil. This is meant to give you a brighter, healthier complextion but I'm not a fan of oil face products. It just exaggerates my oily areas.

Shiseido Serum. This is lovely to put on before your primer or foundation. Leaves your skin soft with the added bonus of being packed full of skin goodness to help your skin and reduce ageing. Always a bonus :D

You do get some James Read Sleep Mask Tan but I'm not a fake tanner or even a tinted moisturiser user, so I gave this to a friend.

I was most excited about the sample of Glamglow. This mud mask is raved about all over and at £45 a tub it's quite pricey.
But I now know it's so worth it. It didn't make my face tingle uncomfortably like other packs do and my skin was so soft after. You can literally see the impurities leaving your pores! Fabulous product.

You also get to try the Laura Mercier primer which is such a great sample and a decent size. It's a lovely gel primer, I'm still playing around with it but it's in my top 5 :)

They include a skinny eyeliner from Eyeko which is full size and costs £12. This is my perfect product. It's basically the felt tip liner and it makes doing a cat eye super easy. I struggle with liquid liner brushes so this is my staple eye product.

A Daniel sandler concealer brush worth over £12 and some Essie nail polishes in a deep red and cool grey finish off the box beautifully.

All told another winning box for me. At £19.95 plus p&p, this box was worth it just for the glam glow, liner and primer :)

Oh and did I mention LIB usually include discount codes for some of the brands used in the box, so a nice lil saving if you want to purchase some new goodies :)

Check out this box here http://www.latestinbeauty.com/getthegloss

Have you tried any of these products? Any new favs? :)

Much Love,

February Birchbox

Hello lovely people,

It's Birchbox time! Came earlier this month (I'm writing this well over a week after receiving my box)

Anyway quite disappointed about the appearance this month. It's brown! I've heard of going old school but brown. Yack so boring. Especially with it being the month of love and all that cliché BS. Haha. But nope, no pink, no red, no cute lil love hearts *sigh*

However the contents are much improved from last month but still not great like my first box in December was. However I could have just been overly excited about my first ever beauty subscription box! Haha.

Darjeeling Bath & Shower Wash. Full size rrp from £6.50. It's ok, fresh lemon scent. I use Dove which I love so I'll not be changing over.

Caudalie Radiance Serum. Full size retails at £45!! Quite a pricey product and I do love to use serum before my primer. I liked how this had a protective seal as well. However it's got a weird smell and I didn't like how it settled on my skin, like a strange sticky but not sticky feel to it.

Number 4 Comb Prep & Protect. Full size RRP £20. Not a fan of these leave in hair conditioners, so I gave mine to a friend.

The Balm Cosmetics Stainiac. RRP £10. This is like the Benefit lip tint. It's ok, I'd prefer a real gloss rather than a stain. Plus I noticed other boxes got the Cindy Lou manizer sample! Say what??? :o

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Liner. RRP £11. Eye catching design with the black and pop of gold. This is lovely, very creamy and glides on great with no tugging. Smudges well for a great smokey eye look :)
I got black in my box, I'd prefer the silver option as I have loads of black liners but hey ho it's still a good product.

Finally you got a breakfast pack from The Chia Co. Worked out about 99p. I liked the food touch and as I'm being all healthy, this was a perfect option as chia seeds are a great protein source and full of omega 3 plus the oats and fruit add more nutritious goodness to this snack :)

So a mixture this month. It was an ok box. Still not bad for only £10 plus p&p as the liner was over a tenner. I like how you get to earn points with Birchbox which add up so you can buy stuff from the eshop! Happy days :D

Don't have Birchbox? Check them out here https://birchbox.co.uk/?raf=68466 you can get free shipping on the February box using code: BBLOVE

What did you get this month?

Much Love,

Jupiter Ascending Review & Make Up

Hey lovelies,

I went to see the new film Jupiter Ascending starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum.
The film follows Jupiter (Mila Kunis) who finds out she's reincarnated royalty from a distant planet. With the help of her genetically modified side kick (Channing Tatum) they have to fight to stop a tyrant from destroying the Earth.

The film was awesome. Very Star Trek meets Matrix but with a more teen friendly feel ;)

Not only did I enjoy the movie (I mean Channing Tatum was topless a lot!) but Mila Kunis has some fabulous eye looks.

From the everyday smokey plum/brown, the soft cute lilac, to the dramatic cranberry red.

The make up brand pur minerals has a great little set with all the shades you need plus a liner and lipgloss! This is exclusive to feelunique.com at only £21

Blogger and make up artist Laura did a fab look using this set. Check it out here http://lauraloubeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/makeup-purminerals-makeup-look-giveaway.html?m=1
Please note the actual giveaway associated with this link has finished.

Have you seen this film? Any recreated looks? :)

Latest In Beauty Givenchy Box

Hi guys,

I'm back with another beauty box from Latest In Beauty. They've collaborated with British Beauty Blogger to give you some fab Givenchy goodies to try :)

Again beautifully wrapped and even the sticker and tissue paper was embossed with the Givenchy logo!

Included in the box was samples of the his and her perfume. I actually really like the female scent which is Dahlia Divin. It's my kind of perfume, kinda reminds me of Lady Millions :) strong but with a slight sweet fruity/floral tone to it.

You get to try some of the face products like the Hydra Sparkling Moisturizer which is lovely, thicker than a lotion so I use it at night and sinks into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.
Hydra Sparkling One Minute Glow face scrub. Leaves your face feeling really clean and smooth.
Both smell nice and are lovely to use. I had no problems (I'm quite sensitive)

What I was most excited to try was the Nude Look BB cream from the Hydra Sparkling Range. I got shade medium beige. The texture is quite runny, like the Rimmel one. But it's easy to blend and covers well. It also offers an impressive SPF30 skin protection. Enjoyed using this BB cream :)

You can also go get a 5 day sample of the foundation from a Givenchy counter plus you can get your make up done. I've not taken advantage yet but I will be soon!

Next was the interesting part. You get a sample of the Phenomen'Eyes Mascara in black. This mascara has the weirdest wand I've ever seen.

It's a round ball wand! Lol. This mascara is actually great, formula wise but it was really strange applying it with such a unique tool. I like to get the brush to the start of my lash line and wiggle it up my lashes but I couldn't really do that with this brush.

Finally my favourite thing in this box! A lipstick from the Le Rough collection. This was a mini size but you still get a decent lippie.

I got the shade 202 Rose Dressing. Omg this colour is amazing! It's like the perfect shade they could choose for this box. Kinda coral red and guys the formula! Like butter. So soft, so creamy. It was like an oil based lip balm. Just glides right on!

Now to buy the full size is £25! So this mini is well worth it for the cost of this box! In terms of lasting, I got a few hours but I'm terrible at getting lippies to last even those made for that purpose *sigh*
Overall I love this lipstick and the colour :)

Finally you get a purse or notebook as a bonus gift. I got the purse, I'd have preferred the notebook as I'd actually use that but my niece has decided she needs the purse for her handbag (note that she's 2! Haha)

This box was great for trying out different Givenchy products that I probably wouldn't normally consider. It costs £18.95 with free p&p! You can check it out here http://www.latestinbeauty.com/collections/collections/givenchy-the-british-beauty-blogger-edit

Have you tried this box? Do you have any fav Givenchy products?

Much Love,

Eat the Rainbow

Hey guys,

Quick update. I'm still on point with my food, no sneaky lil treats creeping up on me! Thank you very much! Lol

I was thinking of posting a few recipes that I try, maybe a picture? What do you think?

Today's dinner was chicken stir fry with a shit load of veggies! :D delish. All I did was chop up the veg, cook them up in a big arse pan then added some fresh squeezed orange juice, soy sauce and some olive oil. I roasted the chicken then diced it up and added to my veg. Yummy :)

I love how colourful it looks :) hence the title 'eat the rainbow' not an excuse to eat skittles! Haha.

I've just bought a cookbook 'Thug Kitchen' I follow these on Facebook and there concept is 'eat like you give a f%#k'

Please note if you're easily offended by swearing/cussing or general bad language you will not like their page or this book. https://www.facebook.com/thugkitchen

But I think it's brill and the page is fab. They turn simple foods into a delicious recipe without you getting panicked about ingredients or complicated instructions.

The book intro is hilarious :D get ready to turn into a motherf$%king chef ;)

Do you have any tasty recipes to share?

Much Love,

Bex x
